The remainings of the Hambach Forest are very old: it was born after the retreat of the tundra of the last ice age, 12,000 years ago. It is closed the rest of the forest that covered the low plain of the Lower Rhine. Only Forest clearing in Hambach escaped and became a Bürgewald a guaranteed forest: access taken from the nobility and guaranteed to the villagers by the emperor. All other primary forests in the lowlands were grown because this is the most fertile soil of Germany.
Here, the forest was not cleared but was used variously. For this reason we find an outstanding plant society which actually should be part of the Natura 2000 network. We present four plants that characterize this company. Read more on Wikipedia. These are two herbs and two trees.
